Books

Its probably a good idea to get one of the standard textbooks early on and read it cover to cover. You will find that you will get much more out of your training this way. There are several excellent texts. These are the standard UK Texts. I've linked each book to Amazon so you can check out details and reviews. If you have any different opinions about these books let me know and I'll post them here. I don't think that an internal medicine book in itself is enough - you really need one that deals specifically with elderly medicine. If you wish to recommend any other books please let me know.

	Oxford Textbook of Geriatric Medicine This is my favourite. Its now available in softback and is very readable and reasonably priced as the standard tome for your training. It's currently £ 75 from Amazon.
	Brocklehurst's Textbook of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology   This is edited by Prof Raymond Tallis from Manchester. Its also an excellent book. Both have their own style and I have often found both to be excellent.
	Stroke: A Practical Guide to Management  Charles P Warlow et al.  This is the standard UK Bible on stroke disease and management. It is multiauthored and should be studied by anyone doing stroke medicine. I couldn't find the second edition which came out in 2001 on amazon. Make sure you get the 2nd edition.
